Moulding Wills

Proved wills are public records and anyone is entitled to obtain copies of them. The following data was obtained from documents at the Records Office in Preston.

  • 1686 John Moulding of Ashton Farm, yeoman and Margaret Moulding, daughter. Administration.
  • 1729 Henry Moulding of Houghton, husbandman, father of Edward, Ann, John, Henry, Matthew. Execs Edward Core and Richard Hilton. (Burial recorded in Catholic Book)
  • 1748 Thomas Moulding, Farmer, late of Samlesbury, granted to John Moulding, uncle and tutor of children of the deceased and to Ellen Moulding, otherwise Walmsley, relict. Execs: William Moulding, yeoman, John Ainsworth, yeoman, John Moulding, brother of William. Children were Ann, Richard, Elizabeth Maud, Henry.
  • 1740 Tuition of above: Ann, 8, Richard, 6, Elizabeth, 3, Henry, 1.
  • 1764 Edward Moulding of Salwick/Kirkham died 4 October 1764. Left things to wife Elizabeth, daughter Anne (wife of William Brown), daughter Elizabeth, son William, son Rowling, daughter Margaret. Execs: Elizabeth Moulding, William Molling, John Gregson of Lea.
  • 1792 William Moulden, 20 April, Samlesbury, yeoman, leaves house, Dawson Fould, late in possession of Betty Margerison, unto wife Ellen Mouldon, son Thomas Mouldon, daughter Ellen Mouldon and to Betty Dewhurst, Mary Sefton, Nancy Ainsworth, Peggy Layland equally. Bedstead, bedding etc to Ellen and Ellen, £5 to daughter Jane Hargreaves, 5 shillings to son in law John Hargreaves, £20 to daughter Ellen and granddaughter Betty.   • 1794 Alice Moulding, 6 October, Croston, left to Ann Layland and Alice M, daughter. Execs: James Layland of Leyland, husbandman, William Hough of Chorley, gentleman, John Boulton of Chorley, Alice Moulding of Leyland, spinster
  • 1797 Thomas Moulding, 9 Feb, of Bingley, husbandman and bachelor, left to Thomas Moulding of Bingley (father and farmer), and James Smales of Manchester, (bookkeeper) (see 1894)
  • 1803 Thomas Moulding, 10 October, Samlesbury, bequeath to beloved wife Ellin Mouldon almost everything and profits from house that James Bradshaw lives in. Also four houses at Sharo Brow, Blackburn. One pair of looms to William Layland, 5 shillings to James Edmonson, 5 shillings to James Bradshaw. After Ellin dies, bequeath to my daughter’s children (late wife of James Edmonson) half her houses. Other half to daughter Betty, wife of James Bradshaw. Execs: Ellin Mouldon and James Sefton of Pleasington.
  • 1815 Henry Moulding, 19 July, of Leyland, Yeoman, left to daughter Margaret Parkinson of Leyland, executrix under £200 and house lived in by John Cross.
  • 1819 Henry Moulding, 23 October, of Walton le Dale, yeoman left to sons Thomas and John two houses freehold at Duke Street Preston. Also tenement in Samlesbury left to daughter Betty Seed and her children on condition they pay £3 a year to Henry’s daughter in law Betty Moulding (widow of David) but if she marry again the £3 goes to her eldest son Henry Moulding. If he dies, then to be divided amongst the other children. Also John Seed to pay Henry’s daughter Nancy Shorrock £8 10s 0d yearly. H also gives 5 shillings to son Richard. All sons and daughters to share and share alike debts and interests. Execs John M, W le D, Thomas M, Preston, John Seed, W le D. Henry died on 6 May 1819, estate under £200
  • 1845 William Moulding of Whittingham died 11/5/1837. Land and property to Nancy Moulding, wife. If she dies, it goes to daughter Betty (the wife of John Boothman). Exec: Nancy Moulding
